Abstract:
In order to reduce the volatility associated with the cyclical business-pattern of the semiconductor industry, Royal Philips Electronics N.V. (Philips) decided to divest its semiconductor unit and focus more on the emerging profitable businesses of the health-care segment. Philips also decided to drop the word ‘electronics’ from its company name to emphasise the change.
The case discusses the corporate repositioning of Philips from an electronics-goods manufacturer to a healthcare and wellness driven company.
